Welcome to the August edition of the eLearning Africa Newsletter. In this edition we will be looking back to May 2022 and forward to next year’s eLearning Africa Conference & Exhibition, and we will be sharing news on our partners and community and how they are shaping the future of education, training and skills development on the African continent. Save the Date: eLearning Africa, May 23 - 26, 2023 in Dakar, Senegal

We are delighted to announce the launch of the 16th edition of the eLearning Africa Conference and Exhibition which will take place under the Patronage of H.E. Macky Sall, the President of the Republic of Senegal, in collaboration with eLearning Africa 2023 lead partner TooShare.

The overall theme of the 2023 event is “New Model Learning: Innovating to Become Sustainable, Self-Reliant, Equitable and Resilient”.

eLearning Africa Lead Partner 2023 Launches the “One Million African Talents" Challenge

The One Million African Talents programme is a major project to provide access to quality education that meets the standards of the world's best universities and training centers. In partnership with Study Access Alliance, TooShare will provide scholarships for online university degrees at IU International University of Applied Sciences to those who would otherwise not be financially able to study.

This milestone will be the first step in the One Million African Talents programme and involves the awarding of scholarships to 100,000 students who will benefit from online certification courses over a 5-year period.

The eLearning Africa Podcast Featuring Mark West, Education Specialist, UNESCO

Join us for the latest eLearning Africa Podcast - In Conversation with Mark West. Chatting with Rob Vember, Mark provides a sobering assessment of how the world has fared regarding education during the Covid-19 pandemic. Describing it as a story of "exclusion, heightened inequities, diminished learning, and diminished educational experiences". West acknowledges the need to look at how educational technologies can improve learning and efficiencies but emphasises the fundamental need for providers of education to look at how they can contribute to the holistic wellbeing of learners. Mark shares Unesco's ideas on how to better centre society's most marginalised, advocates for more online public spaces for public education, and emphasises the need for creativity and pedagogical innovation about how to use the strengths of the digital space to improve teaching and learning.

eLearning Africa 2022 in Review

Download our Post Event Report of eLearning Africa 2022 which took place in Kigali, Rwanda in May 2022.

With a total of 1084 participants from over 70 countries, 70+ sessions, 12 pre-conference events and 70 exhibitors,  the 2022 edition of eLearning Africa was considered a splendid success.

Communiqué: The 14th Ministerial Round Table took place on May 11, 2022

The 14th Ministerial Round Table took place in Kigali, Rwanda on May 11, 2022 and addressed the theme: "Getting Back on Track - Practical Steps towards 2063": A decade ago, in its Agenda 2063, the AU set out its vision of a 'transformed continent' and the various aspirations it had for improvements in the quality of life of ordinary Africans. Since then, Africa and the rest of the world have had to contend with a devastating pandemic. It has interrupted progress and upset plans. It has also created new opportunities. As Africa begins a process of greater integration with the creation of ACFTA, African leaders still face the challenge of rapid technological change and growing, increasingly urban populations. How can they move beyond the pandemic, learn its lessons and get back on track towards 2063?
